Jussi Ahola, enthusiastic and passionate on AI, started ramping up Unikie’s AI capabilities and business

The number of employees at Unikie has increased to more than 300

Jussi Ahola has started at Unikie Helsinki office at beginning of August as the Head of AI & Machine Learning. He will be concentrating on ramping up Unikie’s AI capabilities and business.

“I’ve been privileged to work on machine learning and advanced analytics practically my whole professional career, which has lasted way longer than I’d like to admit. Nevertheless, I’m still as enthusiastic and passionate on AI as ever. Perhaps even more so, as nowadays we can actually do things that we could only imagine 25 years ago”, says Ahola.

At Unikie, Ahola saw a role that suited himself and his skills. Ahola is particularly inspired by the company’s willingness to invest in artificial intelligence and machine learning. He sees firm excecutives with a strong belief in growing the business through it. According to him a lot has already been done in the company, but there is still much to do.

“My vision at Unikie is that artificial intelligence is to be included in all solutions. In addition to developing our own assets we also need to strengthen our competence in this field. This is how we will offer intelligent systems for the automotive industry, ports, heavy industry as well as the telco side”, Ahola says.

Ahola came to Unikie from Siili, where he was responsible for the service development of data and AI area. Before that he held Senior/Chief Data Scientist positions in various small and a little larger software&services companies. Earlier during his consulting career Ahola spent almost 15 years in (applied) research.

Despite the corona, summer recruits continued at a good pace

The number of Unikie’s employees exceeded the magical limit of 300 already in the beginning of the summer. Tommi Kinnunen, COO at Unikie, mentioned that “we are still expecting huge growth on second half”. There are many new cases under negotiations and some of our current projects are growing fast. So the need for new talent is constant.

So the recruitment team didn’t loosen their grip even during the summer vacation season but they made several new contracts with new employees. In addition to Jussi Ahola, many experienced software specialists have started in Unikie during the summer.

Valtteri Tarvus has started as Software Engineer and Lasse Mäkelä as senior Test Engineer in intelligent cargo handling project in Tampere. Senior Graphics Engineer Sami Enne and SW Developer Tanel Dettenborn have also added Unikie’s roster in Tampere during the summer.  Priyanka Kamboj has started as Test Automation Engineer in Helsinki.

Unikie’s office in Sweden has also been strengthened by one employee. SW developer Jakub Chmielartz has started as a Mobile Developer since the beginning of August.
