YOUNG COMPANY WITH A LONG HISTORY
Unikie was founded in 2015 on a need to export Finnish technology know-how. The founding members had strong backgrounds in the software industry, and they also wanted to correct some faults that existed in the field of software. Through a unique business model, we combine demanding customer value production and appreciation for best possible skills.
Our founders come from many lines of IT sector operations and well-known established companies, which include Nokia, HP, Dell, Microsoft, Symbio, Flander and many others. We also have ongoing projects and cases with the largest IT technology companies and telecommunications operators in the world. Our expertise goes further into industry specific know-how, which you can see some of by studying our areas of expertise.
Highlights along our journey
UNIKIE & PSI PRESENTED AUTOMATED BUS DEPOT
PSI Transcom and Unikie showcased for the first time at InnoTrans 2024 the automated bus depot, performing driverless movement of standard buses within a depot. Integration of the Depot Management System with Unikie Marshalling Solution allows the seamless automation of all bus tasks.
UNIKIE ACQUIRED HOUSTON ANALYTICS
Unikie has acquired Houston Analytics to expand its data analytics capabilities. Houston Analytics’ expertise will enhance Unikie’s service offering, particularly in the areas of data-driven decision-making and advanced analytics solutions.
UNIKIE & ROCSYS FORM TECH PARTNERSHIP
Unikie and Rocsys announced a long-term technology partnership to enhance hands-free charging for automated vehicles in bus and logistics depots. Partnership will see Rocsys’s hands-free charging technology integrated with the Unikie Marshalling Solution.
POSITION IN DEFENCE & SECURITY
Unikie strengthens its Defense & Security business unit by investing in industry experts. Unikie aims to become a technology provider that increases overall security by offering innovative and secure solutions for civilian, defense and authoritative use.
JUHA ALA-LAURILA AS CEO
Unikie has appointed M.Sc. (Tech.) Juha Ala-Laurila as a new CEO, starting at September 1st, 2024. The current CEO and founder Seppo Kolari will focus on leading Unikie’s sales in the United States.
UNIKIE PARTNERS WITH SILICON LABS
Unikie has become a Design Partner in IoT with Silicon Labs. Unikie assists device OEMs in automotive, healthcare, industrial and smart building sectors to take full advantage of Silicon Labs’ IoT, BLE and Edge AI chipset capabilities.
POLO PORT ACTIVITY BECOMES PART OF FINTRAFFIC
Fintraffic’s Vessel Traffic Services is expanding its digital port services with POLO Port Activity through a business deal with Unikie. The POLO Port Activity application was originally developed by Unikie and launched in 2021.
UNIKIE JOINS BVL
Unikie is a member in BVL (Bundesvereinigung Logistik), a nonprofit association dedicated to advancing logistics and supply chain management. This collaboration reflects Unikie’s commitment to driving innovation and optimizing solutions within the logistics industry.
UNIKIE JOINS PIA
Unikie joins Finnish Defence and Aerospace Industries – PIA, which is the interest organization for Finnish companies within the defence, aerospace and security.
UNIKIE PARTNERS WITH KEYFACTOR
Unikie and Keyfactor joined forces to provide a multi-layered approach to security that addresses the unique challenges of embedded IoT devices.
UNIKIE SPEARHEADS THE AUTOLOG PROJECT
Partnering with Volkswagen Group Logistics, Deutsche Telekom, and BIBA – Bremer Institut für Produktion und Logistik, Unikie is set to redefine operational efficiency and mixed-traffic navigation in gated areas, starting at Europe’s third-largest automotive seaport in Emden, Germany.

Unikie’s Management system is audited by Bureau Veritas and found to be in accordance with the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015.
AUTONOMY MOBILITY INNOVATION AWARD
In Autonomy Mobility Expo in Paris, Unikie wins the Autonomy Mobility Innovation Awards 2024 in the category of Fleet Management, Car Rentals & Subscriptions.
UNIKIE MARSHALLING SOLUTION REVOLUTIONISES CAR MANUFACTURING LOGISTICS
Unikie’s Marshalling solution, piloted at Ford’s Saarlouis production plant, allows for cars to be remotely controlled during logistics processes. It can also be used in other closed environments, such as bus depots.
UNIKIE JOINS DDE
Unikie joins The Digital Defence Ecosystem (DDE) which is a network of Finnish companies in defence and technology bringing new digital defence solutions to international markets.
SEPPO KOLARI IS APPOINTED AS CEO
Unikie’s Board of Directors has appointed Seppo Kolari as CEO of the company. Kolari is a member of the board and served as the company’s COO.
UNIKIE PARTNERS WITH MENDER
Mender helps Unikie’s end customers to implement key parts of device lifecycle management faster and more smoothly. That enables Unikie to serve its customers better with a larger catalog of services and products, and enhanced service level.
UNIKIE EXPANDS TO ESTONIA
Unikie will establish a product development unit in Tallinn and and aim to recruit 100 software developers within two years.
AUTOMATED VALET PARKING
The world premiere of Unikie’s automated parking solution is seen at the IAA Mobility 2021 in Munich in collaboration with BMW, Ford, Jaguar-Land Rover, Mercedes Benz and VW Group’s technology company Cariad.
THE TIVI COMPANY OF 2021
Unikie was selected as the Tivi Company of 2021. Every year, Tivi – Tietoviikko IT magazine – selects the best Tivi Company of the Year from the list of 250 largest IT companies in Finland.
UNIKIE TO LEAD AUTOSAR INFORMATION SECURITY TEAM
Unikie is invited to join AUTOSAR as developer partner. Unikie will lead car manufacturers’ international information security working group.
FINNISH INFORMATION SECURITY CLUSTER
Unikie becomes a member of the cybersecurity interest organization Finnish Information Security Cluster (FISC). Through FISC, Unikie can participate in building an intelligent and data-secure internet of everything.
THE LAUNCH OF PORT ACTIVITY APP
Fintraffic and Unikie launch Port Activity App which brings together all information needed by port call actors. In Finland, ports can join the Software-as-a-Service solution free of charge.
NEW DEVELOPMENT SITE IN KUOPIO
The Kuopio unit will strengthen the company’s own technology development as well as provide service to local clients.
SEPPO KUULA IS APPOINTED AS CEO
Dr. Sc. (Tech.) Seppo Kuula is appointed as CEO for Unikie. The current CEO and Unikie co-founder Esko Mertsalmi will continue to work full-time in the company’s board.

Unikie and Promotives in Germany have created together a strong player in global Automated Valet Parking (AVP) market.
CAPMAN GROWTH AND TESI
Unikie raises €12 million from CapMan Growth and Tesi to speed up international expansion.
UNIKIE AB AND UNIKIE POLAND
Operations in Sweden start and Unikie also invests on offices and a development team in Poland.
UNIKIE ON DELOITTE TECHNOLOGY FAST50
Deloitte Technology Fast 50 listing is announced and Unikie is rewarded as the 3rd fastest growing technology company in Finland in 2019.
UNIKIE IS CERTIFIED TO TISAX 3 LEVEL
Unikie’s operations meet the European automotive industry’s highest information security standards. Unikie was thus named the third Finnish company and the first Finnish software company to be listed on the TISAX security list.
UNIKIE ACQUIRES NEUSOFT MOBILE SOLUTIONS
Unikie buys Neusoft’s business in Finland. This strengthens Unikie’s car software development expertise and expands its global position within the car industry through new acquired customers.
