Unikie has been engaged in active collaboration with a global manufacturer of home security and smart home devices to support their product and firmware development.
Since 2024, Unikie’s dedicated team of expert software engineers has worked closely as part of the company’s own development teams with a focus on imaging and camera system development for intelligent devices.
Developing imaging firmware for smart home protection devices
Developing features and fixing bugs for new products
Focus on imaging and camera system development
Focus on Image Quality and Firmware Development
Unikie’s team is focusing especially on image quality and firmware development. Image quality plays a critical role in the end-user experience of the customer’s products. It determines how effectively the device performs in various conditions, such as:
- Low light (night) scenes
- High dynamic range (HDR) environments
- Night mode, Day mode and switching between modes
These conditions are especially important in security use cases, where the goal is to identify people, vehicles, license plates, and more. High image quality is essential for accurate and reliable identification.
Firmware & Algorithm Development
The development work includes two key areas:
Algorithm development that directly impacts visual output (e.g., noise reduction, contrast, color accuracy).
Feature support such as image dewarping and other processing functions.
Importance in Battery-Powered Devices
In battery-powered devices, image quality needs to be established quickly because:
- The camera remains powered off until it detects motion.
- Upon motion detection, the camera powers on and begins image capture.
- The speed of startup and 3A algorithms (Auto Exposure, Auto White Balance, Auto Focus) is crucial.
Particularly, auto exposure must adjust rapidly to ensure that people, cars, license plates, etc., can be recognized as soon as possible after activation.
