Unikie showcased fully automated driving at Volkswagen Automotive Seaport

Unikie announced the revolutionary AutoLog project together with partners Volkswagen Group Logistics, Deutsche Telekom, and BIBA – Bremer Institut für Produktion und Logistik for the first time in April 2024. The collaboration aims at fully automated driving in large automotive seaports and compounds around the world, redefining operational efficiency and mixed-traffic navigation in gated areas.

In autumn 2025, we have now successfully tested automated vehicle movements in real port operations within Volkswagen Group Logistics – in one of the world’s largest vehicle logistics terminals in Emden, Germany.

AutoLog sets the course for automated driving in vehicle distribution. This gives us an opportunity to implement automated driving from factory to dealership. We are confident that we will be able to use this process in the future to increase process efficiencies and also improve our distribution qualities,” said Simon Motter, Head of Group Logistics at Volkswagen Group.

This marks a major milestone in a key logistics innovation. Automated driving opens up enormous potential not only in vehicle logistics, but across the entire process chain for all our process partners.

“In Emden, we demonstrated our Marshalling Solution capabilities with multiple vehicles driving successfully in a safe way alongside human-driven vehicles. This highlights the maturity and scalability of the technology, representing significant progress toward widespread implementation of automated logistics,” said Vesa Kiviranta, CBO, Automotive & Marshalling Solutions at Unikie.

Unikie is driving this project forward as part of a consortium with strong partners – a big thank you to everyone involved in this journey into the future!
