Port Activity App, developed by Unikie, is a finalist at Seatrade Awards

The Port Activity App, developed by Unikie, has been nominated as a finalist at Seatrade Awards, in association with Lloyd’s List. The Port Activity app participates in the Port & Terminal Digital Technology Award category. This award recognises the development and / or application of innovative port and terminal technology that supports the achievement of specific goals.

“Our pioneer work with Ports of Rauma and Gävle, as well as Finnish and Swedish port authorities has started to pay off. We are clearly answering to a real need as new ports are constantly joining to our Port Activity application. We are proud to be part of this new digital era in ports”, says Petri Kalske, Head of Industrial Solutions.

The Port Activity Application brings together all information needed by port call actors. Before, this data was scattered across different systems. Now your mobile follows you everywhere and gives you notifications when your action is needed. No longer do you need to follow the screen 24/7. In an efficient port, the online information will replace most phone calls and emails.

“The user-friendliness of the app’s interface has been taken into account to a great extent. If the user wishes, he or she can choose to follow the arrival or departure of a specific ship, in which case the phone only receives notifications about the phases of that ship and there is no need to actively monitor the mobile phone”, explains project manager Annika Hörkkö from Unikie.

The solution is Open Sourced, but local proprietary features are possible to be added by Unikie. In Finland, ports can join a country-specific Software-as-a-Service solution free of charge. FinTraffic is hosting this national service which has already expanded to fourteen ports in Finland.

The port applications in Rauma and Gävle were developed as part of the Central Baltic Efficient Flow project led by the Swedish Maritime Administration. SAMK, the Satakunta University of Applied Sciences who nominated the solution at Seatrade Awards led the port application work package in the project. In addition to Unikie, other project partners were Port of Rauma, Port of Gavle and Fintraffic VTS.  The Seatrade Awards is a leading global maritime and maritime industry award program. The winners will be announced during the virtual ceremony on 3rd November.
