Tampere, Finland – June 12th, 2025 – Unikie, a Finnish software engineering and innovation company, and Deutsche Telekom, a leading European telecommunication operator, are pleased to announce a global partnership aimed at revolutionizing automated vehicle marshalling. This collaboration will leverage the strengths of both companies to develop and deploy cutting-edge solutions for automated driving in gated areas, such as depots, logistics facilities, and industrial sites.
Unikie, renowned for its expertise in embedded software engineering and innovation, has been at the forefront of automated vehicle marshalling since 2019. The Unikie Marshalling Solution (UMS) uses a digital twin of the factory premises and can thus control the vehicles accurately and safely – even in confined, densely trafficked areas with mixed traffic or in poor visibility conditions. This system has been successfully demonstrated in various high-profile projects, including automated valet parking at the International Auto Show 2021 in Munich and the Autolog project, launched in Emden in 2024.
UMS builds on standard based vehicle controls (ISO 23374), wireless connections, cameras, lidars, radar sensors, AI based machine vision, advanced algorithms and real-time edge computing for centralized, accurate and fast vehicle control. The solution integrates seamlessly with Deutsche Telekom’s state-of-the-art 5G network and mobile edge cloud computing to ensure low latency and high reliability in data transmission. The combined technologies will facilitate precise vehicle movement strategies, reduce human error, and enhance operational efficiency.
Deutsche Telekom will provide the latest mobile network technology, including public 5G networks with dedicated services for automated driving. Their mobile edge cloud computing will host the Unikie Marshalling Solution close to the automated driving facility, ensuring low latencies and seamless operation. Thanks to the IT system integration of Telekom’s subsidiary T-Systems, customers benefit from a seamless end-to-end solution with the highest performance and round-the-clock operation. The partnership will focus on industrial use cases, offering automated marshalling solutions for vehicle production, vehicle logistics, bus and tram depots, parcel and last-mile depots, and special vehicles in mining, harbors, and forestry.
“We are thrilled to partner with Deutsche Telekom to bring our automated marshalling solutions to a global scale,” said Vesa Kiviranta, Chief Business Officer at Unikie. “This collaboration will allow us to combine our expertise in AI and automation with Deutsche Telekom’s advanced network technology, creating a powerful synergy that will drive innovation and efficiency in the automated driving industry.”
” We’re the only ones who can deliver the full package of SIM card, network, edge cloud, and system integration from a single source. In combination with Unikie’s software for automated driving, we’re shaking up logistics processes far beyond the automotive industry. In the next step, we’re set to scale into the European market thanks to our edge cloud and the 8ra initiative. 8ra promotes a secure and independent cloud-edge infrastructure to strengthen Europe’s digital sovereignty,” says Christian Hort, Senior Vice President Automotive at T-Systems.
