Unikie Enhances its Drone Development Capabilities by Establishing a new Indoor Flight Test Center, Drone Range and Communication Systems

Unikie has world-class expertise in embedded software development, networked computer systems and secure chipsets. To leverage its capabilities, Unikie is establishing a new indoor flight test center in Turku. This new facility will significantly extend Unikie’s drone technology development and testing capabilities.

The new indoor flight test lab will enable comprehensive testing and development of drone flight controlling technologies and robustness, safety and security of the drone operation systems. The focus will be on strengthening Unikie’s capabilities to develop secure chipset solutions and hardened application software stack tailored for operating drone swarms covering device and networking side. Unikie is working closely with modern command and control systems providers (C5ISRT), drone backend system providers and system integrators to make more comprehensive solutions available to our customers.

Expanding Testing Capabilities

To address the need for better testing systems, Unikie has leveraged its expertise in LiDAR sensor fusion and autonomous driving. Sensor-based and inertial navigation solution, developed for the Unikie Marshalling Solution, creates a controlled space for secure, safe and precise running of the automated system. Artificial intelligence can be used to increase smoothness of the system and add the level of autonomous capabilities.

Unikie has been testing its autonomous driving and marshalling solutions extensively at Unikie Turku Test Center. Unikie is now expanding the scope of operations in its test center by establishing a new indoor flight lab. The new lab will operate in parallel with Unikie’s existing autonomous driving test center in Turku, Finland.

New Drone Range available for partners

In addition to Unikie’s internal advancements, the company is establishing a dedicated drone range for its customers. This new testing facility will allow clients to test and validate their drone systems in a controlled environment, benefiting from Unikie’s existing expertise and testing infrastructure. The new drone test range will offer various scenarios and conditions to simulate real-world operations, providing valuable insights and data to optimize drone performance.

Strengthening Secure Communications

Unikie’s commitment to secure technology extends beyond drones. Company’s experience in dual-use technologies for network devices, quantum safe and hardened endpoints has been a cornerstone of Unikie’s engineering capabilities. With the increasing demand for secure communication solutions, both for human and machine interfaces, Unikie has joined the Finnish Defence and Aerospace Industries (PIA). This strategic move enhances Unikie’s position in the local ecosystem and expands its offerings to the customers in the defense industry. Unikie is also a founding member of Digital Defence Ecoystem (DDE) and member of Finnish Information Security Cluster (FISC).
