Unikie and CGI selected to develop Helsinki Region Transport’s Digitransit platform

Unikie, a Finnish technology and innovation company, and CGI, one of the largest independent IT and business consulting services firms in the world, have been selected to develop the Digitransit platform for Helsinki Region Transport (HSL), Fintraffic and Waltti Solutions Oy. The agreement covers the Reittiopas journey planner—the most widely used public transport service in Finland—as well as over 20 regional planners and Fintraffic’s national trip planner at opas.matka.fi. The estimated value of the agreement is €2.4 million.

“Collaborating with HSL and CGI is a strategically important project for Unikie. We’ve worked with HSL for several years, and we look forward to continuing that partnership in the years to come,” says Jussi-Pekka Peltonen, Client Executive at Unikie.

“Our 30-year collaboration with HSL has led to several innovations that improve the accessibility and usability of public transport. Reittiopas now serves more than a million users monthly. By combining CGI’s and Unikie’s expertise, we can expand the platform to better support the needs of daily travelers,” says Mika Vuorio, Director Business Consulting for transport and logistics services at CGI in Finland.

New real-time support feature launched in April 2025

In April 2025, HSL introduced a new real-time journey assistant within the CGI solution Reittiopas. Designed to enhance accessibility, the assistant guides users throughout their journey, offering real-time updates on stops, transfers, disruptions and ticket suggestions.

The functionality is particularly aimed at passengers who require added support or confidence while using public transport. Visual alerts and intuitive prompts help make commuting smoother and less stressful. Developed in close collaboration with users, the feature is currently available on HSL’s web-based Reittiopas.

“Our goal is to make public transport more accessible and user-friendly for everyone. The journey assistant is especially helpful for new users and those navigating unfamiliar routes,” says Joona Packalén, Head of Passenger Information at HSL.
